Amanda Tapping

Amanda Tapping is a Canadian actress, producer, and director. She is best known for her role as Samantha Carter in the science fiction series "Stargate SG-1," in which she starred for 10 seasons. She has also worked on other television series such as "The Outer Limits" and "Supernatural."

The series "Sanctuary," which she created and produced, first aired in 2008 and lasted until 2011. It was broadcast on Syfy in the United States and in France, and on Space in Canada. "Sanctuary" follows the adventures of Dr. Helen Magnus (played by Amanda Tapping), a brilliant scientist who runs the Sanctuary, a secret refuge for supernatural creatures and scientific anomalies. Along with her dedicated team, she seeks to protect these unique entities and uncover the truth about their origins.

The series was acclaimed for its cutting-edge technology, which included computer-generated special effects and innovative camera use to simulate live-action movement. It was also praised for its diverse cast and strong, complex characters.

For several years now, she has dedicated herself to her directing career. She has stepped behind the camera for series such as "Travelers," "Van Helsing," and "Motherland: Fort Salem."

Amanda Tapping is also involved in humanitarian causes, including the fight against cancer and aiding troubled children. In 2005, she founded the charitable organization "Sanctuary for Kids," which aims to help vulnerable children around the world.

She also advocates for women's causes in the film and television industry. In 2017, she directed the short film "Reel Women Seen." Most of the team members were women. The project was important to her, not only because of its content but also because, with an almost exclusively female team, it empowers young women by showing them other women taking on roles as producers, directors, etc., and giving them a goal to strive for.

In 2020, Amanda Tapping participated in the virtual conference "WIFT Canada Cross Country Check-In" organized by Women in Film & Television Canada, along with several other women's organizations, on the role of women in the film industry.

In 2022, in an interview with The Companion, Amanda talked about sexism.
