Lidia Poët, the first woman to join the Italian Order of Lawyers
Born in 1855 and died in 1949, Lidia Poët was the youngest of 8 children in a family of wealthy rural landowners. She obtained a teaching diploma, learnt German, English, and in 1878, she enrolled in the Faculty of Law at the University of Turin. She graduated in 1881 with a thesis on the status of women in society and on their right to vote.
